MERCY

Mercy can be a difficult topic to tackle, yet I find it’s one of the most desirable gifts Christians seek. To show mercy is an awesome experience but to receive mercy is not always easy. Sometimes people misunderstand those who show mercy. Those who show mercy often don’t even realise that’s what they are demonstrating.

I completed an online Ministry gift exercise. I was surprised to see that mercy was high on my list of gifts until I read what mercy actually means.

To show mercy is to show forgiveness, compassion, kindness, pity or understanding… even leniency. When explained this way, I can see how people have shown mercy toward me and how I have shown mercy to others. I also understand how we can misinterpret another’s acts of mercy. Have we become unaccepting of another’s gifts? Do we feel complacent with our circumstances or those of others’?

Jesus showed mercy/ compassion and He has instructed us to show mercy. Shouldn’t we also accept mercy from those He has instructed to show mercy?

Psalm 103:13

“Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.”

Exodus 33:19

“And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.”

Isaiah 30:18

“And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.”

Where and when was mercy shown to you in the past month?

When was the last time you showed mercy to another?

FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS

March 24, 2009 on 12:21 pm | In Blog entries | Comments Off

Psalm 37:7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him…

When an answer to prayer is not quick in coming, we often find ourselves focusing on the prayer itself and on the answer we desire to that prayer. While we know it’s good to be positive, and we know God will answer in His time, we need to wait on Him, the one who meets all our needs—and He’s never late.

It’s while we wait that we need to keep our eyes fixed on the Lord, study His Word and find instruction, comfort and encouragement. We need to trust Him and know that He can and will do what He considers best for His children.

There’s one thing I have learnt through waiting; it gives me the opportunity to give God the glory for an unwavering assurance that He has all things under control. Everything is in His hands and there is a time for everything.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Verse 11 He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Wait in hope, perseverance, and patience and joy because His grace is sufficient for me.

Lord, help us to be patient with answers to prayer. Keep our eyes fixed on You knowing all things will come to pass in Your perfect timing. Amen© Chrissy Siggee

PERSEVERANCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT

March 19, 2009 on 11:17 am | In Blog entries | Comments Off

Hebrews 10, 19-25″Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having an high priest over the house of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

There are times I have to stop and reflect on the needs and position of others. Sometimes I may not feel like encouraging: like when someone has left me less than encouraged. But in reality, it’s my responsibility to encourage others – no matter what I feel like or what others have done to me.

Have you been discouraged by someone; perhaps by someone you have respected and/or encouraged? Do you find this was disheartening and possibly weakened your desire to continue to encourage others?

Words can either build up or pull down. We need to persevere in encouraging others in their faith until He comes. It’s a basic instruction from His Word; it’s not an option nor is it a ‘when we feel like it’ preference.

Don’t allow discouraging words to weaken your faith or neglect the gifts God has give you. Don’t allow disappointments prevent you from encouraging.
Galatians 6:9

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Father, help me to keep my eyes on you. Strengthen me in times when I’m discouraged by others, that I may persevere in doing what is right. Teach me to encourage others even when I don’t feel like it. Help me to hold fast the profession of my faith in you without wavering. Amen.

BUT WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE

March 14, 2009 on 8:54 pm | In Blog entries | Comments Off

Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Once we understand that faith is to ‘trust’ we can understand why it’s impossible to please God without faith. We can’t put our faith in someone if we can’t completely trust him. When someone distrust it can be a very painfully experience. God sent His only son, Jesus, who suffered and die for us. Jesus experienced distrust, pain and anguish.

Who else has given so much love as our heavenly Father? After all He has done, if we cannot put our trust and faith in Him, or believe He exist and rewards those who seek Him, then how can God be pleased with us?

Luke 15:7 says “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.”

He cannot help but bless those who love and trust Him. Faith is believing in His promises and that they are for us, His children.

Faith is the key to receiving God’s blessings and promises. We need to seek Him and have faith to believe in His promises. Without complete ‘trust’ in Him, we cannot expect His rewards.

Father, help us not to grow weary in seeking You and the promises You have for us. Help our faith in You to grow stronger. Thank You for all that You provide for us and give to us, Your children. Amen.
