The Australian Public Service usually requires the job seeker to lodge an application that addresses specific selection criteria.

• An essential criteria is a ‘must have’ criteria.
• A desirable criteria is an added advantage.

The selection panel will rate candidates against the criteria in order to select the right applicant. The job seeker must meet all the essential criteria to be seriously considered for the position. Some positions have up to five selection criteria and it’s important to cover each with a competitive view.

• Evidence of your capability must be demonstrated in each criteria.
• Specific brief details need to be provided including skill and qualification.
• Success and result of capability of the criteria is essential.
