Career Overview

Often Resumes begin with the job seeker’s career goal, which is ideal for school leavers or recent university graduates. But for those who have worked in previous positions and who have gained prior experience, it would be more suitable to begin with a career overview. Employers want to know what you can do for them and how your skills and experience can help to promote their company. A career overview presents the prospective employer with valid information about you, the job seeker. Placing your expectation to your next employer in the first line of your resume could be off-putting; adding career intentions in the conclusion is more appropriate.

A career overview should provide a quick preview of what is presented in your resume. It should be brief and written as one paragraph, and ought only to include a small element of your professional, academic and industry training. Personal attributes are optional and your career goal could serve as the last sentence.
